Catching up with Former Communication Intern Kathya Carvajal

January 14, 2019

Recently, we had the privilege to sit down with Kathya Carvajal, former communication intern for Campus Compact of the Great Plains. During her time with Campus Compact, she assisted Executive Director Mary Ryan with the nonprofit’s operations. Kathya worked hard to develop an effective communication plan that would connect Campus Compact’s partners with vital information via email and social media. As part of this process, Kathya interviewed students, faculty, and Campus Compact staff from around the nation in order to collect insights into the most successful methods of communication.

Kathya also tabled at the University of Nebraska Omaha in order to spread awareness of Campus Compact’s presence on campus. She also led a group of volunteers in a service project to help Campus Compact during one of the University of Nebraska Omaha Signature Days of Service. Volunteers helped sort informational documents into packages which were sent to current and potential member universities.

When asked what she learned during her time at Campus Compact, Kathya stated that she learned better communication skills and how to become independent. “I became more open to doing my own research and figuring out how to properly prepare to have engaging conversations with other professionals and organizations,” she recalled.

Kathya is currently double majoring in Neuroscience and Spanish and minoring in Psychology. She is the president of her sorority Lambda Theta Nu Sorority, Inc. and is the president of the Multicultural Greek Council.

We here at Campus Compact appreciate the impact she has had on the organization and hope she continues to succeed in the work she does in her community!
